Creighton University Business Programs

Creighton University appears in our ranking of the Top 15 Doctorate in Leadership Online Programs.

One reason why this university appears in our ranking is that of its Heider College of Business, which ranks as one of the top business schools in Nebraska and in the Midwest. Though the university offers a basic undergrad program that prepares students for going to business school and working in the field, its graduate programs are more popular.

The university offers a Master of Business Administration (MBA) program online. This program has a flexible nature that works around the skills and experience that students have. Creighton will ask those with less experience to take some prerequisite courses, which will help them gain the same knowledge as their peers. Students take electives and core classes, including Economic Analysis for Managers, Leadership & Organizational Behavior, Information Systems Management and Marketing Management. The university also allows students to choose a concentration in finance, accounting, personal financial planning, business intelligence and analytics, leadership or financial psychology & behavioral finance.

Creighton students can also enroll in a traditional MBA program that requires they take classes on its campus or an executive healthcare MBA program. The healthcare program features courses that meet the schedules of professional students. All students take 45 credits of classes that include Healthcare Accounting, Health Policy and Economics, Strategy for Healthcare Organizations, Management of Human Resources in Healthcare and Quality and Performance Improvement in Healthcare. Students in this program must attend four residency sessions on the campus before they graduate.

Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) students will find that the university uses a cohort system. It will only accept students willing to start in the fall, and the university requires that students work in the same cohorts as they complete their studies. It takes three years of work to finish this program.

During the first two years of the program, the university expects students to attend eight residency sessions. It offers these sessions on weekends to help students attend each one without taking time off work. They will then spend one more year in the program taking online classes. The 54 credits that students take include classes like Applied Accounting Research, Survey of Innovative Business Pedagogy and Applied Financial Research.

Students will also earn at least 21 credits for the research and dissertation work that they do. The university will award students up to six credits for their mentor work and up to nine credits for their dissertation research. Students can work with their advisers both online and offline as they do their dissertations. Creighton University offers a few other graduate programs for business majors, including a Master of Accounting and a Master of Finance.

About Creighton University

Creighton University is one of the largest colleges in Omaha, Nebraska. Founded in 1878 as Creighton College, it bears the name of the woman who donated the money for its campus. She wanted the school to honor her deceased husband, and her brother-in-law later helped fund the school. Some of the classes that it offered during its early days were prep classes for high school students who wanted to attend college. It later separated the two campuses and created a high school and a college. The college gained university status in later years.

The university now offers classes through 10 different colleges and schools. Though its College of Arts and Sciences is the largest, a number of students take classes from its Heider College of Business too. Forbes ranked Creighton as one of the best colleges in the United States, and U.S. News & World Report ranked it as one of the best schools in its region. Washington Monthly also ranked the university for having one of the nation’s best graduate schools. Creighton University has a religious affiliation with the Roman Catholic Church and an enrollment of more than 8,000 students.

Creighton University Accreditation Details

Students who want to transfer credits into one of the university’s doctoral or graduate programs won’t have any problems because the university has regional accreditation, which comes from the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCACS). It also allows students to use the FAFSA when finding out if they qualify for any federal financial aid. All its business degree programs have accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) too. A small number of other degree programs offered by the university also have specialty accreditation.

Creighton University Application Requirements

The application process that Creighton University uses starts with an online application. Students of all ages and levels will use this application to give the university more information about them. They can complete their applications in one sitting or work on the application over an extended period of time because the university allows students to create accounts with the admissions site.

Students must submit transcripts from all the colleges they attended where they earned credits. The university will accept unofficial transcripts initially but will require official transcripts later. They must also submit letters of recommendation from professionals familiar with their work in the field or in school. Creighton usually asks for between two and three letters of recommendation. Students may need to submit a resume, standardized test score and/or writing samples too.

Tuition and Financial Aid

The Doctorate of Business Administration degree that Creighton University offers has a flat tuition rate. Students pay $40,000 a year, which includes the cost of all the classes they take, the books they use in those classes and the residency sessions that they attend on the campus. Online students enrolled in its MBA program pay $1,100 per credit hour. The certificate programs that the university offer cost less. Students are also responsible for paying a few different fees each semester.

Both graduate and doctoral students, including those enrolled in an online program, can apply for financial aid. The FAFSA uses either the tax records of a student or his or her parents. Only those who fill out this form and list the Creighton school code can get federal loans. The federal government allows upper-level students to borrow up to $20,500 a year. Creighton University will work with students to ensure that they do not go over the maximum amount they can borrow in federal loans before they finish their studies.
