Online Sports Management Doctoral Degree from Northcentral University
Northcentral University offers an online Doctor of Education with specialization in Sport and Athletic Management from the School of Education. The School of Education enables students to tailor their academic programs to meet their personal and professional interests. The doctoral degree in education with sport management concentration was established to provide students with the opportunity to receive a doctoral degree that will help them advance in their current fields. The online program focuses on the application of theoretical understanding to advance practice in the education field. Students are able to expand their knowledge through both practical application and doctoral research to make an impact on the sports field. Students study a blend of science-based academics, real-life experiences, and research methods with a focus on the constantly changing financial, political, legal, and marketing issues within collegiate athletic divisions. Students also take courses related to Title IX, legal aspects and recommendation activities for student-athletes.
The online program features weekly course starts with no scheduled lecture hours. Students are able to complete the coursework whenever it is convenient for them. Instructors provide one-on-one interaction and personalized mentoring. The program requires the completion of 54 credit hours and students can finish the program in 40 months. The curriculum includes core education courses as well as specialization courses. The core courses include foundations for doctoral study in education, advanced scholarly writing, scholarly literature review, research methods, statistics, advanced qualitative design and measurement, advanced quantitative design and management, and doctoral comprehension assessment. The specialization courses in sport and athletic management include the development of human resource strategies in intercollegiate athletics, intercollegiate sport governance, legal aspects of equity in intercollegiate athletics, sport compliance, advising the student-athlete, facility management and programming, and financial administration for sports facilities and programs. Students must also complete a dissertation on a specialized topic within the sports management field.
