Business and Sports Management Programs

One reason who so many students choose to study sports management at Southern New Hampshire University is that the university has such a solid reputation for its business programs. Though the university now offers a number of degree programs, its management and business programs rank among the best in the northeast and the best online options.

The university offers a Bachelor of Science in Sports Management. This is available as a standard program or a three-year program. The three-year allows students to do internships and gain management experience in the field and still graduate within three years. Students can work with the university to secure their internships and to ensure that they work in areas that relate to their future careers. Though the university requires that students do internships over the course of two semesters, it allows them to work in the same place or in different places each semester.

Southern New Hampshire University also offers a Master’s in Sports Management, which is an online program. Students have the option of earning a graduate certificate in Athletic Administration that prepares them for working in athletic organizations. Though the university requires that sports management grad students take 36 credits, it will accept credits that students already earned. Some of the courses that students can take include Sports Marketing and Media, Research Methods in Sports Management, Finance and Economics of Sports and Sport and Society. Southern New Hampshire University requires that students take a Sports Management Capstone course in one of their last semesters.

Southern New Hampshire University is a university based out of New Hampshire that has a strong reputation for its online degree programs. Originally founded in the early 1930s as a business school, it provided students with courses that taught them how to work as secretaries and accountants. In the 1960s, the school changed its name because it wanted to show students that they could study other business subjects and earn their degrees in business, accounting, and commerce. Known as New Hampshire College for a number of years, it finally became Southern New Hampshire University in 2001.

Also called SNHU, it has a small campus in New Hampshire with an enrollment of around 4,000 students. The university also established three regional learning centers that offer opportunities for students in both Maine and New Hampshire. Manchester is home to its College of Online and Continuing Education, which offers online programs that grew out of its old distance learning programs. Many students now take courses at this college and earn their degrees online. With online students factored in, the university has an enrollment of more than 70,000 students.

Southern New Hampshire University Accreditation Details

Though SNHU offers a number of online degree programs, it still has the same types of accreditation that traditional schools do. The New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) granted the university regional accreditation, which is a type that applies to both its undergrad and graduate degree programs as well as its certificate programs. Regional accreditation is also a requirement for students who want to transfer credits or receive financial aid from the government. The Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACSBP) granted SNHU accreditation for all its business programs, including those in sports management.

Southern New Hampshire University Application Requirements

Any student who wants to apply to the university must complete its online application. SNHU follows a unique schedule that consists of six different sessions held each year. As long as a student completes the application and submits any other required materials, he or she can start at the beginning of the next session. The university encourages students to contact its admissions department and speak with an admissions counselor to find out more about this process.

The university will accept up to 90 credits earned from another school for those enrolling in a bachelor’s program. Graduate students can transfer up to 45 credits into one of the university’s advanced programs. Students must provide the school with official transcripts that show they earned those credits. Their transcripts should also list the name of each course they took and their grades in those classes. Those applying for a spot in a graduate program must also pay a $40 application fee.

Some of the programs available at SNHU require other information from students too. They may need to submit resumes to show the university any professional experience they have in the field they want to study or a standardized test score that shows the student scored highly on an entrance exam. Some programs will also ask for letters of recommendation from professionals who have personal and professional knowledge of the student’s work.

Tuition and Financial Aid

SNHU charges $320 per credit hour for all undergrads who want to take online courses. As each class is worth three credits, students will pay $960 per class. The cost for military students is $225 per credit hour or $675 per course. The university offers this discount for both full-time and part-time military students as well as their children and spouses. Students enrolled in an online graduate program will pay $627 per credit hour or $1,881 per class. Military students and their spouses and dependents pay $470 per credit hour, which comes out to $1,410 per class. The cost for students enrolled in traditional on-campus programs will pay around $1,025 per credit hour as undergrads and $627 per credit hour to take graduate classes.

As Southern New Hampshire University has regional accreditation, students have the right to submit the FAFSA and apply for federal financial aid. Financial aid is available for both online and traditional students as long as they take a full course load. Undergrads can get grants and loans based on how much their families can contribute and how much they need. Graduate students usually receive loans with a low-interest rate.

The university offers a sibling grant for students who attend the university at the same time that a sibling does. Enrolled siblings will split a $2,500 grant. There are also more than 10 different scholarship programs available too. The New Hampshire Governor’s Scholarship provides residents with $2,000 and gives nonresidents $1,000 to attend a school in the state. Southern New Hampshire University offers both need and merit scholarships for its students.
