Online Sports Management Master’s Degree from the University of Central Missouri
The University of Central Missouri offers a Master of Science in Kinesiology with a concentration in Sport Management through the School of Nutrition, Kinesiology and Psychological Science of the College of Health, Science and Technology. The program is among the first entirely online degrees in this field. It offers flexibility to working professionals and full-time students. The courses emphasize common competencies necessary for professional success in today’s dynamic sports world. Students must complete at least 30 credit hours with the thesis option and 33 credit hours with the internship option. The program can be finished in as little as three semesters. The required courses for both options include sport law and risk management, sport finance, advanced sport marketing, sport public relations, and organizational leadership in athletics and sport. Students taking the internship option must complete statistics in kinesiology or introduction to research in kinesiology. The elective courses include advanced sport facility management, readings in physical education, sport consumer behavior, foundations in sport management, sport sponsorship and sales, advanced sport and media, advanced sport event management, and trends and issues in kinesiology. For the internship option, students have the ability to establish meaningful connections with various sports management related entities. The thesis option involves extended research in the field and composition of a lengthy written paper.
Upon completion of the program, students will possess the ability to explain the major concepts and theories of sports management and apply them to real-life applications in various sports settings. They evaluate and engage in sport marketing research and analyze financial management in sports to establish successful strategies for a sports organization. They also evaluate case law in the sports field and create legal strategies.
About University of Central Missouri
The University of Central Missouri is a public institution of higher learning located in Warrensburg, Missouri. It was established in 1871, making it one of the oldest universities in the state of Missouri. It was founded as Normal School No. 2, a training school for teachers. Quickly after its founding, the school changed the name to Warrensburg Teachers College. It became Central Missouri State Teachers College in 1919. In 1945, the school changed its name to Central Missouri State College. In 1966, the college acquired the Max B. Swisher Skyhaven Airport, making it the only institution of higher learning in the state to own and operate an airport. The college became Central Missouri State University in 1972. In 2006, the university finally became the University of Central Missouri. In 2017, the Missouri Innovation Campus opened. Today, the University of Central Missouri is home to more than 12,300 students from all over the nation and more than 50 countries. The campus setting is rural on 1,561 acres. The university is also home to a campus in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. The university uses the semester-based academic calendar.
