The University of Cincinnati is also featured in our ranking Top 50 Master’s in Sports Management Degree Online Programs.
The University of Cincinnati offers an online master’s program in sport administration. The university’s version of this degree is a one-year, perhaps two-year, program that focuses on three areas of the world of sport administration:
•Interscholastic secondary athletic director
•Collegiate athletic director
•Assistant to either of the first two
Within that scope, the curriculum includes sales training, management and leadership development, public relations, marketing, and other areas relevant to the topic. The classes are multidisciplinary, too, and reinforce concepts from one class in the others. For example, topics from Sport Finance and Budgeting are applicable to certain topics in Strategic Athletic Marketing. The same holds true concerning Sport and Social Context and Athletic Governance and Compliance.
Part of the program includes the university’s many partnerships with high schools and other colleges to give sport administration students a chance to achieve real-world experience while still in school, which is invaluable when they begin their job hunts after graduation.
The city of Cincinnati provides students with excellent opportunities and access to sports franchises. Not counting the Bearcats themselves, the Cincinnati Reds, the Cincinnati Bengals, and the soon-to-be FC Cincinnati are outstanding representatives from three of the major U.S. leagues. Minor-league franchises also dot the landscape and provide a different perspective and set of challenges to sport administration students.
About the University of Cincinnati
In the year 1819, two institutions were founded. They were the Medical College of Ohio and Cincinnati College. During the year 1870, the City of Cincinnati chartered the University of Cincinnati, which then assimilated the two original institutions. The university was one of the first institutions of higher learning to implement a cooperative educational philosophy. From there, the university has developed both its curricula and educational superiority to a keen edge as can been seen by its top 25 standing as a research institution recognized by the National Science Foundation.
U.S. News & World Report ranks the university quite highly, too, and considers it one of the top destinations for veterans. The university’s focus on experience-based learning in addition to traditional classwork gives it an advantage over similar schools.

University of Cincinnati Admission Requirements
Master’s degree candidates for the sport administration graduate degree must have maintained a GPA of 3.0 or higher during their undergraduate studies. Because of this standard, neither the Graduate Record Exam nor the Graduate Management Admission Test is required for enrollment. A student’s required bachelor’s degree must be from an accredited institution.
Graduate applicants must also have an up-to-date resume on file and have two letters of recommendation. One of these letters must be professional, and the other must be academic. If the student’s undergraduate GPA is less than 3.0, then that student must take the GRE. A score of 297 or better will be considered satisfactory. Each student must also have all official transcripts of all undergraduate study forwarded to the Admissions Office of the University of Cincinnati. These must be sealed, official transcripts, and the students themselves may not send them. They must come from the institutions in question. The student’s resume should focus on sport-related topics, experience, and skill sets.
International students must be able to prove English language proficiency and have all immigration documents and visas in order and on file prior to the beginning of classes. If such a student plans to work, then a work permit is required. Students wishing more information should peruse the applicable webpage or call the Admissions Office for further details.
Tuition and Financial Aid
Depending on a student’s field of study the costs might be broken down into cost by credit hour or assessed by semester or year. In general, in-state students pay $711 per credit hour for graduate classes, and out-of-state students pay $1,311. The full cost per semester for in-state students is $7,234, and for out-of-state students, it is $13,105. Programs other than the master’s of sport administration might cost more or less. In addition to the tuition, there are assorted other fees that may apply to students on a case-by-case basis.
Students who need financial aid to help pay for their studies should fill out a Free Application for Federal Student Aid. The FAFSA covers all aspects of financial aid, including loans, grants and scholarships, and work-study programs. Students must usually submit tax forms with their FAFSA, and they might have to submit their parents’ tax forms as well. There are rules regarding financial aid, such as the standard of satisfactory academic progress. Students who fail to progress could lose their aid entirely or have it converted into an unsubsidized Stafford loan. It should also be borne in mind that the FAFSA must be submitted every year. The university itself provides scholarships, and there are dozens more available from the private sector.
Leading the way into the wild bounds of the 21st century, the University of Cincinnati focuses on research, cooperative learning, and complete student development to meet today’s challenges.
