Online Business Degrees at University of the Cumberlands

The University of the Cumberlands in Kentucky offers several online business degrees through its Hutton School of Business. Not only can students earn an Associate of Science in Business Administration, but they can also enter the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration program and enjoy convenient online classes. Other business degrees available online include the Executive Master of Business Administration, Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Doctor of Business Administration (DBA). The university is an Educational Member of the International Accreditation Council for Business Education (IACBE), which shows the school’s commitment to excellence in business education.

Students in the Associate of Science Degree in Business Administration program will need to complete 61 semester hours in the program that include general education courses and coursework related to the degree. Core requirements for the degree include Principles of Accounting I, Principles of Macroeconomics, Principles of Accounting II, Principles of Microeconomics, Principles of Management, and Legal Environment of Business. Students are also eligible to choose twelve hours of elective courses and must maintain a grade of “C” or better in all courses to receive their degree.

The Bachelor’s in Business Administration at the University of the Cumberlands offers students a more comprehensive degree option that is also offered through online study. Not only will students take the classes required of associate’s degree students, but they will also take additional classes in essential areas of business like Money, Banking & Credit, Consumer Behavior, Business Law, and Investments. Some of the areas where a student may find work after graduation include financial planning & management, real estate, corporate financial management, advertising, management & public relations, buying & purchasing, banking, and securities & credit services.

Students at the University of the Cumberlands also have their choice of three different graduate programs with the Executive MBA, regular MBA, and a Doctor of Business Administration. The Executive MBA is a hybrid format that features online classes, as well as some on-campus experiences. The program requires that students visit the campus for one day each month over the course of 16 weeks. Topics studied in the program include managerial finance, organizational behavior, managerial accounting, and marketing management. At the conclusion of the program, students will be able to apply ethical reasoning skills within business, as well as create successful solutions to problems, and communicate with effectiveness in situations with other professionals.

The regular MBA is similar to the Executive MBA program and is appropriate for students seeking a graduate degree to accelerate their career advancement. The schedule for the degree program features three semesters and one year of work. For students who already have a graduate degree in business, the Doctor of Business Administration is an option. Students who are already in careers and cannot commit to a traditional schedule for a degree will benefit from the online nature of the program. The program requires that students complete 60 credits that include classes like Global Management Models, Strategic Talent Management, and Business Research & Writing.

About University of the Cumberlands

The University of the Cumberlands is affiliated with the Kentucky Baptist Convention and is a private school located in Williamsburg. The school has around 7.000 students with around 3,000 of those students enrolled at the undergraduate level and approximately 4,600 students studying at the graduate level. The school’s official colors are red, blue, and white, and the nickname for the school’s sports teams is the Patriot. The rural university was once known as Williamsburg Institute and was founded in 1889. A meeting of local religious leaders from the Mount Zion Association resulted in a plan to offer higher education to students living in the mountains of Kentucky. The school’s eventual name change to Cumberland University came about due to its proximity to the Cumberland River.

University of the Cumberlands Accreditation Details

The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges has accredited the University of the Cumberlands to grant college degrees. The school has also gained approval from the Tennessee State Department of Education to grant degrees. Various programs at the university are also accredited. Programs offering preparation for educators are approved by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), and the undergraduate and graduate programs in nursing have been accredited by the Tennessee Board of Nursing. The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) has given accreditation to the undergraduate nursing program, and the Board of Accountancy has offered approval to the program in accounting at Cumberland.

University of the Cumberlands Application Requirements

Application requirements to the University of the Cumberlands vary based upon the level of degree a student wishes to pursue. For example, applying to the undergraduate degree program in business administration requires that students submit a $30 application fee and official transcripts from the student’s time in high school. Students with a first language other than English must also pass the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) test. Applying to the graduate programs at Cumberland requires similar documents including transcripts from the accredited degree program in which a student received his or her bachelor’s degree, the graduate application, and the application fee.

Tuition and Financial Aid

The program a student applies to at the University of the Cumberlands will dictate what he or she will pay for tuition. For students in an associate’s degree program at the Hutton School of Business, the tuition rate is $199 per credit hour. Associate’s degree students will also pay a $50 technology fee each term. The tuition for the bachelor’s degree program is similar at $199 per credit hour. Bachelor’s degree students will also pay a $50 technology fee each term. For students in the school’s graduate degree programs, the cost for tuition is $500 per credit hour for the Executive MBA and $315 per credit hour for the regular MBA program. Students enrolled in the doctoral program will pay $500 per credit hour.

Since the University of the Cumberlands is accredited by a local accrediting body, students who attend are eligible for federal student aid. Students may speak with the Office of Financial Planning if they’re interested in receiving advice on paying for college.
