Sports Administration in the Motor City
The online sports administration graduate program at Wayne State University is ranked in the top 50 nationwide. Graduates of the program can go into any subfield, such as coaching, sales management, marketing, and leadership development as it applies to sport administration, among others. Coursework includes both practical and theoretical studies in event management, interscholastic athletic directorship, financing, and collegiate athletic directorship. There are also practicums available for fieldwork in any of the disciplines, pardon the pun.

About Wayne State University
The beginnings of what would eventually become Wayne State University occurred in 1868 when a group of Civil War doctors formed an institution of higher learning for the teaching of medicine called Detroit Medical College. As the years passed, the school added other branches of learning to its curriculum, including:

The year 1933 was significant, too, because of the actions of the City of Detroit, which united all of the university’s various colleges under one banner through municipal legislation. Wayne State University Application Requirements
The application fee for graduate programs at Wayne State University is $50. It is waived for Wayne State University graduates. Graduate applicants must also hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and have achieved a 2.75 GPA during that time in their upper-division coursework.
Graduate applicants, by and large, do not have to complete the Graduate Record Examination, but certain departments at the university do require that test. The sports management department does not, at this time, require it.
Applicants must have each attended institution submit their full academic transcripts and degrees earned to the admissions office. Student-issued transcripts or copies of PDF transcript files will not be accepted. Students should check with admissions to ensure they send the right transcripts, which will avoid delays.
Tuition and Financial Aid
In-state tuition for undergraduate students for the 2018-2019 academic year is $14,293. Out-of-state tuition is $30,776. Room and board and fees come to $12,855. Graduate tuition for the same year is $17,851 for in-state students and $36,448 for out-of-state students. Room-and-board costs for graduate students is the same, although online students don’t usually live on campus. Wayne State University has a Good Neighbor policy for Canadian students and for students from certain counties in Ohio whereby the out-of-state portion of the tuition is waived.
Students wishing to pursue financial aid should begin with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA. This is an all-encompassing application that assesses each student’s eligibility for the different types of aid. In most cases, tax returns for the student are required as are tax forms for undergraduate students who might still be dependents on their parents’ tax forms.
In addition to any loans, there are grants, scholarships, and other forms of aid available. These forms of aid have their own requirements, processes, and qualifications, and students should investigate those fully when considering how to pay for their studies. Loans must be repaid. Grants and scholarships do not require repayment. The Wayne State University website provides a link that directs applicants to some available scholarships.
All students, whether graduate or undergraduate, must maintain a standard of performance to continue their eligibility for financial aid. Falling below that standard could result in the suspension or even revocation any awarded aid. Even certain grants and scholarships might be affected because of poor academic performance.
