University of Hawaii at Hilo

College of Business and Economics

The University of Hawaii School System operates a number of campuses throughout the state, including the University of Hawaii at Hilo. Established in 1941 as a vocational college, the university now sits within the city limits of Hilo, which is home to more than 40,000 students. UH established its College of Business and Economics in 2004, and the college gained accreditation the following year. Students enrolled in the college can join a branch of the honors business fraternity, the accounting club or one of the other business organizations available to students. UH now offers undergraduate degrees in both business administration and accounting.

BBA

The BBA program is a Bachelor of Business Administration available through the University of Hawaii at Hilo. Though the program once covered a wide range of business topics, students can now choose from two different programs. One program, called the general business program, looks at various areas of business, including marketing and tourism. The other program lets students concentrate on accounting without actually majoring in that topic. Students take 10 basic and introductory courses in business, accounting and economics before entering the BBA program. They then take eight marketing, economics and business courses of a more advanced level. UH offers three concentrations for general business students: marketing, management and finance. Students take courses specifically relating to their concentration and several electives to complete the required coursework. UH encourages students to take one or more tourism business classes as many jobs in Hawaii involve working with travelers in different settings.

University of Hawaii at Manoa

Shidler College of Business

The University of Hawaii at Manoa is the flagship branch of the University of Hawaii. Founded in 1907, the school opened after receiving a land grant from the federal government. A few years after the college opened, a teaching college opened nearby, but the two campuses merged into one school in later years. Both U.S. News and World Report and Washington Monthly rank the school in the top 170 colleges in the United States, and QS World University Rankings named it number 327 on a list of top schools in the world. Students today come from Hawaii and all around the world.

Bachelor of Business Administration

Through its Shilder College of Business, the University of Hawaii offers a Bachelor of Business Administration. Since opening in the 1940s, the Shidler College of Business focused on helping students find employment in the business world. The BBA program requires that students take courses on humanities and arts, written communications, natural sciences and social sciences to meet its general education requirements. Students then complete eight core business classes, including legal environment of business, strategic management, principles of marketing, business finance and global management and organizational behavior. All students take at least one class on international or global business and one class on business communications, but students can then select a concentration. Concentrations available in this program include accounting, entrepreneurship, finance, human resource management, management, marketing and management information systems. The college also offers a concentration in international business, but students choosing this option must double major in both business administration and international business.

MBA

Looking for accredited business administration degree programs in Hawaii that give you the freedom to study when you want and take time off when you need? The MBA program at the University of Hawaii at Manoa offers more flexibility than other programs do. When you enroll in the program, you can choose between studying as a full-time or part-time student. The college added a part-time program when it realized that some students wanted to work in the tourism industry, in jobs across the country and in international locations. If you enter as a full-time student, you have the chance to study at one of the top business administration programs in the country. The 30 credit hour program requires that students take classes on marketing, general management, international business and human resource management. International business students have the chance to work for companies in Japan, England and other countries, and all students gain course credit through internships.

Executive MBA

A large number of students take a short break after finishing an undergraduate degree. If you took a break and want to continue your studies, consider the Executive MBA program through the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Specifically designed for students currently working a full-time job, this program lets you take classes when you have time off work. From the moment the school launched the program more than three decades ago, it helped busy and working professionals finish a degree that would take their careers further. Students must attend a residency session on campus and take courses during that session, and the school also asks that students complete a residency weekend on campus. Classes then take place every other Saturday and every Tuesday night. The school provides students with a free snack on Tuesday nights and with a free breakfast and lunch during the Saturday sessions.
