Purdue University

Krannert School of Management

Founded in 1869, the Purdue University system was originally a land-grant institution and received money and land from the state to set up the college. A substantial portion of funds to build the college came from a local businessman named John Purdue, who wanted to help fund a college that would offer degrees in science, agriculture, and technology. Today, the school has around 40,000 students and also offers over 200 majors and areas of study. The college has a large number of international students and is also the second-largest university in the state of Indiana. Interestingly, the university didn’t allow fraternities when it first opened.

University of Evansville

Schroeder Family School of Business Administration

A well known Indiana university, the University of Evansville is a private college that was founded by the United Methodist Church. The school also has a satellite campus in Grantham, England, which offers students the opportunity to study abroad at Harlaxton College if they wish. The university counts around 3,000 students in attendance and has been an active university since 1854. The college underwent significant growth in the middle of the 20th century, right after World War II. The university conducted a significant funding campaign a few years ago to enhance its endowment by $80 million after an already successful campaign that raised $60 million.

Bachelor of Science in Business Administration

Evansville’s bachelor degree in business administration requires students to complete 124 semester hours of various university classes. University of Notre Dame

Mendoza College of Business

A research university associated with the Catholic Church, the University of Notre Dame counts around 12,000 students enrolled and is named after the Virgin Mary. The university was originally established as an all-male school in 1842 and didn’t enroll women until the 1970s. However, some women were on campus prior to the 70s as part of a school exchange program with another school. The school grew dramatically in the middle of the 20th century and increased research funding and its endowment by several million over that time. In recent years, the university has concentrated efforts on sustainability and has improved the eco-friendly design of its energy use.

Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration

University of Southern Indiana

Romain College of Business

With a student population of around 11,000, the University of Southern Indiana offers students 70 undergraduate majors and 10 master’s programs. The university is considered to be one of the fastest growing colleges in the state and also offers its students some of the lowest tuition rates in the state despite getting some of the lowest funding from the state of any college in Indiana. The college is located on a 300-acre campus and has been offering classes since 1965, when it opened as a regional branch of Indiana State University. The school’s classrooms were initially housed in a former elementary school, but the campus was moved in the 1970s to its current location.

Bachelor of Arts in Business Management

Students enrolled in the management major are meant to seek out employment after graduation in any area of business from non-profit to for-profit to government organizations. Students are prepared to seek out work in managerial positions after graduation to help organizations achieve success, expansion, and profitability. Some of the classes offered in this major include a variety of common core classes like computer applications in business, advanced microcomputer applications, and accounting principles. Some of the classes students should expect to take with this minor include Accounting Principles I & II, Fundamentals of Finance, and Legal Environment of Business. Additionally, students must take Survey of Management and Introduction to Marketing. The minor requires that students satisfy prerequisites before enrolling in any upper-division business classes. However, students who obtain special approval from the department may enroll in upper-division classes. Master of Business Administration

Valparaiso University

College of Business

With around 4,000 students enrolled, Valparaiso University has offered students classes since 1859. The university is a private institution and sits on around 320 acres just south of Chicago. The first students of the college paid only $8 for each term of classes, or $24 a year. Room and board cost $2 a week and students were initially in elementary school. Once the university started offering classes at the graduate level, students started taking classes in areas like literature, math, and history. After undergoing a series of name changes over its first century, the university became its modern incarnation in 1906.

Bachelor of Science in Business Administration

Each of the programs offered at the College of Business is designed to feature cooperative projects and hands-on lessons. Assignments are meant to get students involved in their education rather than just sitting in a classroom, listening to a teacher speak about a lesson. The business program features a core of liberal arts studies designed to enhance a student’s communication skills and ensure students become adept problem-solvers through vital critical thinking skills. Students are meant to learn about business as it applies to the global community and the development of a values-based education. Students who aren’t enrolled in the business program at Valparaiso are encouraged to seek a minor in business. In addition, any undergraduate student who has decided to enroll in an MBA program in the future would greatly benefit from a minor in business. Most accredited business administration degree programs in Indiana at the graduate level have a few prerequisites for all students, particularly if a student hasn’t already obtained a degree in business. The minor requires that students take 31 credits and also features a selection of business courses like Financial Management, Management and Organizational Behavior, and Marketing Management. Like all business classes at Valparaiso University, the business administration minor approaches the topic from the angle of hands-on research and requires students to take part in a variety of projects with other students. MBA

Valparaiso’s MBA program was recognized by “The Princeton Review” in its 2014 list of the 295 best business schools and the school suggests that the MBA program routinely shows up on that respected list. The university invites students of all backgrounds to consider entering the MBA program and accommodates students who already have a full-time career or who are able to dedicate their time to a full MBA program. For students who don’t currently possess a business degree, the program takes two years, but students may take up to five years to complete the program if they are working and cannot take many classes each semester. For students who already have a degree in business, some of the courses required for the MBA may be waived, which reduces the amount of time necessary to complete the degree. Overall, the program offers a selection of courses designed to ensure students are experts in three major areas. Those areas include values-based leadership, strategic leadership, and analytical decision making.
